Web Site Purpose
Determining the purpose of your site is the starting point. While all sites have similar needs, specific types of sites have definite distinctions. Will your site be:
- An Informational Site – Educating people on what you do
- Portfolio Site – Showcasing products or services
- E-Commerce – Selling products online
- Customer Service – Keeping in touch with your customers
New Website Vs. Redesigning A Site
Not only do we offer new website design and construction, but, in most cases, we can also redesign an existing site. Depending on the platform your site is build on, normally we can update a site. Site builders like Wix, Weebly and similar “drag and drop” sites may not be as easily changed since they have limited functionality. Often, it’s cheaper to convert the site to a more robust platform, like WordPress, than to do updates.
Responsive Design
76% of all searches for a local business, product or service, begins on a mobile device – a smart phone or tablet. For that reason, it’s critical that a website be able to adjust it’s display to accomodate the browsing device. A mobile/responsive design automatically adjusts the display to match the size of the screen that it will be displayed on.
Google has also made mobile/responsiveness an element of their search algorithm. Sites that do not meet Google criteria may find their ranking in Google dropping.
What Website Platform Should You Use
My recommendation for website design today is WordPress. It is, by far the most robust system as well as easy to learn. WordPress can also be installed on almost every server, often with a single click. No special technical knowledge is needed for most of the functions. Themes are the programs that control the look of your website. There are thousands of themes available for free and as well as premium themes that can be purchased.
